This is comforting

September 10, 2007

A B-52 flew across the country with a nuclear bomb in tow last week. What’s even cooler is that the people who should’ve realized this mistake — crews at the departure and destination points, the pilot, etc. — didn’t realize it for fourteen hours.

Due to a whole system of safeguards, the bomb couldn’t possibly ignite, even if the plane crashed. Still, it is disconcerting to know a bomb with 10 times the force of the one dropped on Hiroshima was just cruising around.

Why wasn’t this categorized under “hilarious stuff that happened today?” It’s not really funny, but that “just cruising around” at the end made me laugh. Also, your blog is the first I’ve ever seen that uses categories I enjoy reading.
